Intro to AR Game Design with Python for High Schoolers

GRADES: 9-12

LENGTH: 1 week

DESCRIPTION

High School Computer Science Explorers (Grades 9-12) will begin Your Coding and Game Design Odyssey at the Holographic AR, Python Programming, and Game Design Camp!

This camp is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC).

No Previous Coding or Game Design Experience Necessary.

Fun outdoor and indoor activities and plays are part of the camp experience.

Module 1: Introduction to Holographic AR Coding and Design: Students learn to code and design Holographic AR experiences using iCreator with hands on projects. With Holographic AR, students will learn to create interesting projects, like navigating through cosmic landscapes, interacting with space-themed characters, and exploring virtual wonderlands. These projects are not just fun but are crafted to encourage high school students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Module 2: Python Coding - The Gateway to Technology: Students will learn Python concepts and techniques at a pace suited for beginners, including statements, loops, variables, lists, operations, functions, and classes, and will gain understanding of the basic logic of script-based programming, setting a strong foundation for further exploration.

Module 3: Venturing into AR Design Using Python: With a solid grounding in Holographic AR and Python, students will then explore AR coding with Python. They'll learn how to craft interactive projects that blend digital elements with the real world, using Python in tandem with AR technology to enhance the interactive experience and performance.

Module 4: Introduction to Game Design in AR: Students will learn the principles of game mechanics, interactive storytelling, and user engagement in an AR context, enhancing their coding skills with game design fundamentals.

Module 5: Crafting Creative Holographic Experiences: Utilizing the Design Thinking Process from Stanford University's Design School, students will apply their newly acquired skills to design and code their Holographic AR experiences. This module aims to foster creativity, allowing students to ideate, develop, and execute holographic scenarios, interactions, and games.

A Week of Exploration, Creativity, and Technological Discovery: This camp is a gateway to the vast possibilities of technology and interactive entertainment: students will learn Python coding, AR design and programming, game design, interactive storytelling, Design Thinking based on the Stanford University Design School curriculum, user interface/user experience (UI/UX), debugging and problem solving and more. Throughout the week, students will acquire skills and experiences that spark a lifelong passion for innovation, digital creativity, and game development.

What’s the magic of Holographic AR Coding with Python over traditional coding courses?

Innovative Application of Traditional Coding: The journey into coding takes an exciting turn as students use Python to create interactive AR experiences and delve into game design. This exploration allows them to see how traditional coding skills can be innovatively applied, blending the reliability of established coding practices with the dynamism of AR technology and the creativity of game design.

Expanded Understanding of Computer Science and Game Design Principles: As students engage in coding, AR, and game design, they develop a comprehensive understanding of essential computer science concepts and game design mechanics. This includes algorithms, data structures, and programming logic, as well as storytelling, user engagement, and interactive design elements in games, which are fundamental to both coding and game development.

Enhanced Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving in a Complex Context: The unique combination of coding education, AR technology, and game design principles enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Designing AR experiences and games presents students with multifaceted challenges, sharpening their analytical skills and preparing them for sophisticated technical tasks.

Preparation for Future Technological Trends and Careers: By integrating traditional coding skills with cutting-edge AR technology and game design, the camp provides an enriching experience that prepares students for a future in technology and digital media. They learn to adapt and apply their coding and design skills to various aspects of technology, a vital capability in our rapidly evolving digital world.
