Intro to Robotics Design & AR Coding
Grades: Grade 3-5
Length: 1 week
Accreditation: Fully WASC Accredited (The Gold Standard in K-12 Education)
Prerequisite: None
DESCRIPTION
Step into the driver’s seat of the future! Young Robotics Engineers will embark on a fascinating journey where mechanical engineering meets digital magic.
No experience needed—everyone learns at their own pace, with extra challenges for students who are ready for more.
In this hands-on camp, students move beyond simple remote-control toys. They will work with a smart robot packed with smart sensors. Students will learn to program their robot to think for itself—detecting obstacles, following lines, and navigating the world. But the adventure doesn't stop at hardware. Using Holographic AR, students will "teleport" into the robot's world, partnering with their machine to solve problems in virtual environments like deep space or underwater trenches.
Along the way, campers build creativity, critical thinking, and persistence as they debug and improve the robotics systems.
Experience the Magic of Robotics + AR: We combine physical engineering with immersive digital exploration.
- Beyond the Joystick: Anyone can push a button to move a car. Here, students write the code! They teach the robot how to move, how fast to go, and when to stop.
- Learn Smart Sensors: Students learn how robots "see" the world. They will code sensors to detect objects and avoid crashes, turning a standard machine into an intelligent explorer.
- Teleport to the Mission: Using Holographic AR, students don't just watch their robot; they become the co-pilot. They can visualize their robot exploring a Mars colony while they control it safely from the classroom.
What You Will Do:
- Work with a robot: Get hands-on with a smart robot using real electronic sensors and motors.
- Code the Logic: Use block-based coding to program your robot’s movements and reactions.
- Navigate with AR: Create a digital environment for your robot and control it as it navigates through virtual hazards.
- Play & Learn: Enjoy a healthy balance of high-tech engineering with fun indoor/outdoor camp activities.
- Note: The robot hardware is provided for camp use, not to take home.
Students will learn the following:
- Computer, keyboard, mouse, and Internet skills (Young Level)
- Introductory Robotics Engineering: Motors, Sensors & Controls (Young Level)
- Introductory Robotics Coding (Young Level)
- Introductory Holographic AR concepts & logic (Young Level)
- Introductory Holographic AR coding (Young Level)
- Introductory visual communication (Young Level)
- Interactive storytelling (Young Level)
- Debugging and Problem-solving (Young Level)
⚠️ Essential Safety & Readiness Guide (Please Read) To ensure a safe and happy camp for our participants, please ensure your child is ready for the following:
- Respect the Tech: We use sensors and components. Students must be able to handle equipment gently; throwing or mistreating the robot is not permitted.
- Listening Skills: Robotics requires following specific steps. Students must be able to follow teacher instructions to prevent damage to the equipment and ensure safety.
- Focus & Patience: Engineering involves trial and error! Students should be ready to problem-solve when things don't go perfectly the first time.
