Who organizes the Presidential AI Challenge, and how does Integem help?

The Presidential AI Challenge is a national initiative led by the U.S. President and First Lady, in partnership with AI.gov, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and ORISE.

Integem proudly supports this initiative by offering expert-led online classes and mentorship to help students learn AI, design impactful solutions, and confidently submit their projects—whether they're aiming for the Certificate of Participation or the competitive track.

Question 2

Who can join the program?

Accepted Answer

Students from all U.S. states and territories are welcome to join Integem’s live online classes. We also support U.S. citizens and green card holders living abroad—including children of military or diplomatic families—who want to participate from outside the U.S.

🔹 To receive the Presidential Certificate: All students—regardless of citizenship or immigration status—can submit a compliant project and receive the official Presidential Certificate of Participation.

🔹 To enter the optional competition track (for state-level awards and potential special recognition from the White House): The student, supervising adult, and educator must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or lawful permanent residents.

What ages or grade levels can participate?

K–12 students of all grade levels are eligible to join Integem’s classes and participate in the Presidential AI Challenge.

The Challenge includes three divisions:

Elementary School (Grades K–5)

Middle School (Grades 6–8)

High School (Grades 9–12)

We group students in a similar way, based on both age and experience, to ensure a fun, collaborative, and age-appropriate learning environment.

Question 4

Are there prerequisites?

For Foundation Path (Beginners): No prior AI experience is needed. We’ll teach your child AI basics and guide them through building and submitting a project.

For Studio Path (Returning Students): Recommended for students who have already taken Integem AI classes or have a background in AI. Focuses on building and submitting a project.

Question 5

What if my child misses a class?

We understand that life happens—whether it’s due to illness, travel, or other personal reasons. Here’s how we support your child:

For technical lessons (e.g., learning AI tools or coding concepts): The teacher can share key materials or a summary of the instructional content so students can review and catch up at their own pace.

For project discussion sessions (e.g., idea sharing, feedback, or collaboration): The teacher can provide a brief update or main points from the session to help your child stay on track with their team.

Note: Because these sessions involve other students (minors), we’re unable to record them for privacy reasons.

Question 6

Do parents need to fill out any forms?

Yes. The Presidential AI Challenge requires a signed parental consent and media release form. We’ll send you the form and guide you through the quick email submission.

Question 7

How are projects submitted?

Accepted Answer

Projects must follow official Challenge rules. Our mentors will help students prepare, check, and submit everything step by step. Parents don’t need to worry about the technical details.

Question 8

Can parents be involved in the project?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Many parents are curious about AI and enjoy supporting their kids. Parents are welcome to be involved—especially with younger students—by helping with light community outreach activities, which are an important part of the Presidential AI Challenge.

Parents can also help capture photos or short videos of their child’s participation and the positive impact they are creating with AI. This not only supports the project requirements but also creates a wonderful family bonding experience, as you share the excitement of learning and making a difference together.
